Poems on the Rails

HSL takes poetry on the rails also this autumn. Passengers can read poems on trams, metro, commuter trains and at metro stations from the end of August onwards. On Monday 30 August HSL's ticket inspectors will hand out poetry postcard to passengers.

The Poems on the Rails event is organized for the sixth time and this year the theme of the event is the city. The event is organized by HSL, Nuoren Voiman Liitto, Helsinki City Library, Helsinki City Transport and VR. The following poets have submitted their poems to be used in the event free of charge: Juhani Ahvenjärvi, Pertti Alaja, Tomas Mikael Bäck, Bo Carpelan, Tua Forsström, Pauliina Haasjoki, Sanna Karlström, Pekka Kejonen, Tapani Kinnunen, Rakel Liehu, Marjo Lyytikäinen, Heikki Niska, Lassi Nummi, Torsten Pettersson, Mirkka Rekola, Pentti Saaritsa, Olli Sirkiä, Ilpo Tiihonen, Jukka Viikilä and Katariina Vuorinen.

The event has been inspired by Poems on the Underground project started in 1986 in London.
