Single tickets and tram tickets

Single tickets are paper tickets available from drivers/ conductors and ticket machines.  There are both one-zone internal and regional single tickets with different prices for adults and children. Single tickets for the metro can be purchased from ticket machines available at all metro stations. Single tickets are valid from the moment of purchase.

Single tickets allow you to transfer to another vehicle within the validity of the ticket.  Internal tickets for Helsinki are valid for 60 minutes, with the exception of the north-eastern and eastern metro feeder services, where the tickets are valid for 80 minutes.

Internal tickets for Espoo, Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi and Kerava-Sipoo, as well as regional and two-zone extended regional tickets are valid for 80 minutes, while three-zone extended regional tickets are valid for 100 minutes. For tickets purchased from ticket machines, the transfer times are 10 minutes longer.

The expiry time before which you should board another vehicle is printed on the ticket.

On U line buses, the drivers only sell single tickets whose price is based on the distance traveled. These tickets do not entitle you to change to other public transport vehicles in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Single tickets are, however, accepted on U line buses 339, 830 - 870  and 974. On U974, drivers also sell both Vantaa internal and regional single tickets.

A tram ticket entitles you to travel on trams for one hour. The ticket allows you to transfer from one tram route to another but not to other modes of transport. There are no tram tickets for children. Tram tickets are available only from ticket machines, drivers do not sell them.
