Tickets on U line buses

On U line buses you can travel using Travel Card season and value tickets, day tickets and two-hour tickets loaded on single-charge card. On U line buses, there are no card readers for passenger use. Thus you need to give your Travel Card to the driver in order to buy a value ticket, register your season ticket or your transfer.

Single tickets

Single tickets of HSL’s ticket system are not accepted. Thus, you cannot e.g. transfer to a U line bus with a single ticket bought on a commuter train or HSL's regional bus.

Please note that on U339U830-U870 and U974 also single tickets of HLS's ticket system are accepted.

On U line buses, the drivers only sell single tickets whose price is based on the distance traveled. These tickets do not entitle you to transfer to other public transport vehicles in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Please note that on U874 also Vantaa internal and regional single tickets are sold.

Night fare

On U line buses, a night fare is charged approximately between 11pm and 4am. The night fare hours vary from one bus operator to another. As for Travel Card season and value tickets, the night fare is charged between 2am and 4.30am.

Children’s ticket or adult ticket?

On U line buses, children's tickets are sold to children aged 4 to 11, i.e. over 12's need an adult ticket.

In HSL’s ticket system, children aged 7 to 16 travel with children’s tickets, i.e. children under 7 years of age travel for free and an adult ticket is needed if you have turned 17. This applies also to U line buses if a child is accompanied by a person who pays his/her fare with HSL’s Travel Card or single-charge card. In this case, HSL’s ticket system regulations are applied also to the child.

Traveling with prams

Normally prams are not allowed on U line buses free of charge. Prams cannot be taken aboard the buses because there is no space for them.  On U line buses, the bus operators own regulations are applied to the transport of prams. This means that the right to travel without a ticket when traveling with a child aged 0-6 in a pram or pushchair, applied on regional bus services, does not apply to U line buses.

Please note that on U874 HSL's ticket system regulations are applied and thus, if you are traveling with a small child in a pram or pushchair, you are entitled to free travel.
