Validity of single and value tickets and transfers

Single and value tickets purchased onboard are valid from the moment of purchase. The expiry time of a single ticket is printed on the ticket.

When transferring from one route to another, show your Travel Card to the card reader in order to register your transfer but do not press any of the buttons. The ticket is valid if the green light appears and the card reader beeps. The card reader’s info display shows the time until which your ticket is valid.
 

Validity times

  • Internal tickets for Helsinki 60 minutes (for exceptions, see below)
  • Internal tickets for Espoo and Kauniainen 80 minutes
  • Internal tickets for Vantaa 80 minutes
  • Internal tickets for Kerava and Sipoo 80 minutes
  • Internal tickets for Kirkkonummi 80 minutes
  • Regional tickets 80 minutes
  • 2-zone extended regional tickets 80 minutes
  • 3-zone extended regional tickets 100 minutes
  • Mobile tickets 60 minutes

Tickets purchased from VR’s booking offices and ticket machines are valid for 10 minutes longer than tickets purchased onboard. The expiry time is printed on the ticket.
 
With a single ticket you can transfer from one route to another within the validity time printed on the ticket.

With single and value tickets you can transfer between routes as long as you board the other vehicle, enter the Metro platform area or the commuter train platform area through VR’s fare collection gate by night within the validity time of the ticket.
 
The validity times of tickets are the same also during the night fare hours. Single, value and mobile tickets as well as Helsinki Cards purchased before 2am can be used during the night fare hours if they are still valid. 
 
 

Exceptions to validity times

On Helsinki internal bus services, single tickets purchased from the driver or value tickets purchased from the card reader are valid for 20 minutes longer than normally on the following routes:

  • Eastern Metro feeder buses and north-eastern feeder buses: 75A, 76A, 76B, 77A, 80, 81, 81B, 82, 82B, 83, 84, 85, 86, 86b, 88, 89, 90, 90B, 90BK, 90K, 91, 91K, 92, 93, 93K 94, 94A, 94B, 94V, 95, 96, 97, 97V, 98 and 98A
  • the Suomenlinna ferry
  • Helsinki internal buses 11, 39, 39A, 43, 45, 51, 52, 52A, 52V, 54, 57, 65A, 66A, 67, 69, 70, 70T, 72, 73, 73N, 74, 74N, 75, 78 and 79
  • Jouko neighbourhood routes in Helsinki J20 – J99
